How to Choose Wholesale Fishing Lures: A Buyer's Checklist

Choosing the right lures decides whether your tackle shop turns inventory quickly or sits on dead stock. This checklist covers the seven points professional buyers check before placing a wholesale order, plus the commercial terms you should confirm before production starts.

1. Match the lure type to the water you sell into

Weedy shallow lakes, fast rivers, rock marks and open saltwater each demand different lures. Stock a spread: topwater poppers and walking baits for calm mornings, sinking pencils and vibration lures for deep summer fish, metal jigs for vertical and boat fishing, and soft plastics for finesse work around structure. A shop that carries five complementary categories normally sells through stock faster than one that doubles up on a single style.

2. Check hook quality first

Hooks are where cheap lures fail. Ask your supplier which hook brand and wire gauge is fitted, whether the hook is corrosion resistant, and whether trebles are standard or upgraded. For saltwater ranges, insist on anti-rust coatings and, where relevant, salt-spray test data.

3. Look at finish, paint and eyes

Paint adhesion, holographic flash and 3D eyes are the visible quality signals customers judge in the rack. Ask for samples in the exact colours you plan to stock and check them under natural light. UV-reactive and luminous finishes sell well in low-light markets.

4. Stock a size and weight spread

A single size rarely sells across a whole market. Most successful ranges cover a light, medium and heavy option - for example 10 g, 20 g and 40 g in a jig series, or 3.5 cm through 6.5 cm in soft plastics. This also reduces your exposure if one size underperforms.

5. Confirm the MOQ per colour, not per model

Minimum order quantities are usually quoted per model and colour. At Luretrophy the standard MOQ is 500 pcs per model and colour for stock items, and 1,000 pcs per design when you need custom colours, logo or packaging. Always confirm whether the MOQ applies to the total order or to each variant.

6. packaging has to survive the trip and sell on the shelf

Blister cards, clamshells, hang tags and printed boxes all affect retail price and shelf appeal. Decide early whether you want bulk packing to keep costs down or retail-ready packaging to sell straight from the peg.

7. Ask for documentation and lead times in writing

Confirm lead time, inspection process and export paperwork before paying a deposit. Stock models from Luretrophy normally ship in 7-15 working days; OEM production takes 30-45 working days depending on design and packaging complexity.
